One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5&6
This verse brings me such comfort to know that if I am trusting in His guidance and seeking Him, I don’t need to worry about a thing, He’s got me covered.
Significant Life Experiences that Led Me to HLCS: I love Jesus and I’m at Harbor Light Christian School because I believe the Lord has called me here to grow young minds and walk beside families as they nurture their child’s knowledge and love for Christ and the world around them.
I Love HLCS Because… From a young age I’ve known Christ as my Savior and I love that I get to share this freely at school. I am so excited to get to know and love the families at Harbor Light Christian School.
Activities/Hobbies I Enjoy: I am married to my wonderful husband, Cal, together we have six grown children and one sweet daughter-in-law. I enjoy teaching young children, sunshine, walking in the woods, reading, spending time with our family, being creative and campfires.

One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “‘For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” Jeremiah 29:11
Significant Life Experiences that Led Me to HLCS: I have a plethora of experience with littles. I have worked at local daycares, in my church’s children’s ministry and nursery, and in the public school system—with students of many ages and needs. While my family’s home church was closed during quarantine, we decided to watch Harbor Light’s services online. Even after our doors opened back up, we continued to watch Harbor Light’s service before going to our own, because we enjoyed it so much. I saw that Harbor Light was looking for a new Pre-K teacher. I prayed about the position and felt led to apply. And here I am!
I Love HLCS Because… Not only is praying and speaking about God’s love “allowed”—it is also encouraged! It is also so refreshing to work in a positive environment with positive people.
Activities/Hobbies I Enjoy: I enjoy spending time with my son and our dogs, going on hikes/walks, beach days, concerts, watching football, and teaching littles!

One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Mathew 6:33
Significant Life Experiences that Led Me to HLCS: We have been blessed to be a part of the HLCS family since 2004. The Lord led us to Harbor Light after moving here from Alaska. He continues to open doors and has provided many opportunities for us here. My husband Joel and I have two wonderful children Khalil and Khailani who have attended Harbor Light since they were in preschool.
I Love HLCS Because…Currently I am teaching preschool and we are truly blessed to be a part of the HLCS family. We are extremely grateful to be in a place with a family atmosphere and where we can speak God’s words of wisdom and encouragement to each other.
Activities & Hobbies I Enjoy: We love spending time together as a family, whatever adventure that might be.

One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the
Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Significant Life Experiences that Led Me to HLCS: After working in the field of
environmental education after college, I realized my love for facilitating unique learning
experiences and decided to go back to school to get my teaching certification. I am
particularly passionate about early childhood education and getting children and families
outside to explore God’s Creation. When I heard about the Kindergarten position at
Harbor Light Christian School, I was eager to apply. I am excited to share my love for
Jesus with the children in my classroom as we grow and learn together.
I Love HLCS Because… I can tell it is a close-knit community. I look forward to working
in a place that stands firm in the Truth, uses scripture as the foundation for strengthening
young minds, and supports the next generation in living for and loving like Jesus.
Activities/Hobbies I Enjoy: One of my greatest joys is baking! I love to be in the kitchen
preparing tasty treats for my family and friends. My husband, Eli, and I love spending
time outside fishing, canoeing, hiking, birdwatching, and camping. We also love playing
with our two adorable dogs, Spot and Opal. I like reading Christian non-fiction and
apologetics books. I also enjoy scrapbooking when I have time.
Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Arts in Elementary Education from Cornerstone University
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
Significant Life Experiences that Led Me to HLCS: I grew up as a pastor’s kid and attended a Christian school myself. A good biblical foundation is so important in life. I was able to stand firm when I attended a public school and went “into the world”. I enjoy laying the same firm foundation in my students. I want them to trust in the Lord no matter what they may face in their life.
I Love HLCS Because… we are a family. Parents, children and teachers form a community of believers that pray and encourage each other. My first and second graders pray for the high school kids, teachers, and other parents, just as often as they pray for each other.
Activities & Hobbies I Enjoy: I enjoy scrapbooking. Each year I make a book for every child of what we did in first and second grade. I love to read and delight in sharing my favorite picture books with my class.
Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Alma College
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Significant Life Experiences That Led Me to HLCS: My family and I were led to HLCS after many prayers for direction led to a random response about a job that my husband had submitted a resume for. We began to feel strongly especially within the past year living in Illinois that we needed to move and get a fresh start but didn’t have any idea when or how it would happen. One day my husband received a phone call regarding a teaching position at HLCS. They just so happened to have another teaching position available in the readiness class which was perfect for me as an Elementary Teacher with an Early Childhood Endorsement. We are from the area originally and have family and friends nearby. We had to decide within a week on whether or not to make the move and we then had 2 weeks to pack and wrap up our lives in Illinois to make the move back to Michigan. Clearly God has given us the direction that we had been praying for and we are so thankful that we placed our trust in Him and have been able to join the HLCS family.
I Love HLCS Because… it is a supportive family environment both to work in and raise our kids in. Getting to work with people and children who come from a similar faith background and have similar values is so important in becoming a team in which we are all working towards every child reaching success in all aspects of their lives.
Activities & Hobbies I Enjoy: I enjoy doing art or craft projects, running, taking fitness classes, and playing volleyball.
Bachelor’s in Education from Central Michigan University
Favorite Bible Verse: Psalm 121: 1-2- “I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.”
Significant Life Experiences that Led Me to HLCS: I used to live in Phoenix, AZ, where I taught in Christian schools for 7 years. I met my husband and moved back to Michigan, and God opened the door for me to teach at HLCS.
Activities/Hobbies I Enjoy: Playing the piano, cross-stitching, reading.
I Love HLCS Because. . . I get to pray with my students and teach them about Jesus! I am blessed to be able to teach at a school that shines the light of Jesus out into its community.

Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University
Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Significant Life Experiences that Led You to HLCS: After 35 years in education (13 teaching and the last 22 in leadership as an Elementary Principal), I retired! Because of my love for Jesus and kids, I wanted to come back to teaching part-time in more of a ministry. . .making a positive impact for Christ!
I Love HLCS Because. . . I get to share my love for Christ as I work with kids!
Activities/Hobbies I Enjoy: I love the water- skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming. . . mountain biking, and spending time with family.
Bachelor’s Degree in Missions from Bethany Global University
Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Columbia International University
Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 3:7-12 “But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”
Significant Life Experiences that Led You to HLCS: I have always loved to learn and teach, especially God’s word! After earning my Bachelor’s in Missions, I felt led to continue on and earn my teaching degree. I imagined I would teach missionary children overseas. However, plans changed when I met and married my husband and then was blessed with our 4 children. I chose to stay home and teach them. It has been my deepest joy to share my love for learning with them, as we have homeschooled these past 12 years. Last year, it became apparent our youngest would benefit from someone else as her teacher. The choice to send her to HLCS was an easy one because we knew many staff members and their strong faith from our years at HLCC. Who better to educate and speak into her life? At the same time, our oldest also felt called to attend. In the past year, we have been blessed to see them both grow and thrive. This fall we are excited for our middle 2 children to also attend HLCS and for me to continue passing on my love for learning to the 5th grade.
I Love HLCS Because. . . It feels like family. The staff knows and cares about each student. I love how prayer can be seen and experienced at any point in the day and in any location.
Activities/Hobbies I Enjoy: I’m happiest spending time with my family and watching my children explore their passions. I also love to garden, cook/bake, spend time with my cats and horse, read and learn new things.
Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Michigan University
Double Minor in Language/Creative Arts and Public Speaking
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: I lift my eyes up to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
Significant Life Experiences that Led Me to HLCS: I am from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and moved to Petoskey when I was hired to teach 2nd-3rd grade in 1995 at HLCS. I taught 3rd grade until 2001, and then taught one more year of music in 2002 before stepping down to stay home with my children.
I Love HLCS Because… we are working hard to instill God’s truth and right living in our children at home, and we are so blessed to have them in an environment that adds to and backs up the same things we are teaching at home.
Activities/Hobbies I Enjoy: Some of my favorite things to do are read, be outside, go for walks or bike rides, play the piano, and spend time in the U.P. with family.
Special Education & Technology
Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from Alma College
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:12-13
Significant Life Experiences that Led Me to HLCS: Back in August 2019, I was baptized by Pastor Gary and at this time, he asked me if I wanted a job at HLCS when he learned what I studied. I graduated from Alma College in May 2021 as a double major in Special Education and Elementary Education. The day that I went in to observe and job shadow was the day that I truly gained an understanding of the immense difference between a public school and HLCS. Both faculty and students were extremely kind, more energetic, and clearly were genuinely happy being at school. This difference in attitude and the fact that it is more of a family, rather than just a school is why I am extremely thankful and excited that God has led me to HLCS.
I Love HLCS Because… rather than being a school teaching academics and caring about the statistics, HLCS focuses on each individual as their own and how we are able to work together to grow and always follow God’s callings. HLCS is a tool used by God to teach kindness, wisdom, respect, compassion, teamwork, and to always love one another.
Activities/Hobbies I Enjoy: I love being outside, whether that is traveling, hiking, stone hunting, biking, sunset chasing, snowboarding, skiing, or sledding. I also love spending time at home doing puzzles, reading, or making crafts while spending time with my husband, dog, and cat!
