Lead Preschool Teacher
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5&6
This verse brings me such comfort to know that if I am trusting in His guidance and seeking Him, I don’t need to worry about a thing, He’s got me covered.
Significant Life Experiences that led me to HLCS: I love Jesus and I’m at Harbor Light Christian School because I believe the Lord has called me here to grow young minds and walk beside families as they nurture their child’s knowledge and love for Christ and the world around them.
I love HLCS because… From a young age I’ve known Christ as my Savior and I love that I get to share this freely at school. I am so excited to get to know and love the families at Harbor Light Christian School.
Activities/Hobbies I enjoy: I am married to my wonderful husband, Cal, together we have six grown children and one sweet daughter-in-law. I enjoy teaching young children, sunshine, walking in the woods, reading, spending time with our family, being creative and campfires.

One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “‘For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” Jeremiah 29:11
Significant Life Experiences that led me to HLCS: I have a plethora of experience with littles. I have worked at local daycares, in my church’s children’s ministry and nursery, and in the public school system—with students of many ages and needs. While my family’s home church was closed during quarantine, we decided to watch Harbor Light’s services online. Even after our doors opened back up, we continued to watch Harbor Light’s service before going to our own, because we enjoyed it so much. I saw that Harbor Light was looking for a new Pre-K teacher. I prayed about the position and felt led to apply. And here I am!
I love HLCS because… Not only is praying and speaking about God’s love “allowed”—it is also encouraged! It is also so refreshing to work in a positive environment with positive people.
Activities/Hobbies I enjoy: I enjoy spending time with my son and our dogs, going on hikes/walks, beach days, concerts, watching football, and teaching littles!
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'” Psalm 46:10
Significant Life experiences that led me to HLCS: I always felt called to work with preschool since I was young, but hadn’t had a chance to fulfill that calling. I heard there was a job opening, so I applied and it turned into an absolute blessing. I love my fellow teachers and getting to know the kids. it feels good to be where God has called me.
I love HLCS because…it’s a work environment unlike any other I’ve been in. The staff genuinely cares for you, prays for you and has your best interest which makes me excited to come to work.
Activities & hobbies I enjoy: playing volleyball, singing on worship, hiking, knitting, and doing puzzles.
Preschool / 1st & 2nd Grade Assistant
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Mathew 6:33
Significant Life experiences that led me to HLCS: My name is Jessica Paule and we have been blessed to be a part of the HLCS family since 2004. The Lord led us to Harbor Light after moving here from Alaska. He continues to open doors and has provided many opportunities for us here. My husband Joel and I have two wonderful children Khalil and Khailani who have attended Harbor Light since they were in preschool.
I love HLCS because…Currently I am teaching preschool and we are truly blessed to be a part of the HLCS family. We are extremely grateful to be in a place with a family atmosphere and where we can speak God’s words of wisdom and encouragement to each other.
Activities & hobbies I enjoy: We love spending time together as a family, whatever adventure that might be.
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
Significant Life Experiences That Led Me to HLCS: I attended Harbor Light as a student from 1997-2002. The HLCS community supported me during a family crisis and provided me with an excellent Christian academic education. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt upon graduating that I wanted to go to college to become a teacher like the Harbor Light teachers who were there for me, set a good example for me, and prayed for me. After graduating with my teaching degree in 2006, I had the opportunity to teach in both private and public schools overseas and in the mid-west. These experiences confirmed for me the uniqueness of the Harbor Light staff and the overall Christian environment that I did not find elsewhere. I moved back to the area in May 2017, and started considering possible teaching jobs. Harbor Light was my first choice as it gives me opportunities to share my faith with students as well as to be supported again in a truly loving, caring environment by some of the same teachers who taught me. It has been like a dream come true to return to HLCS after all these years. I am so thankful that God paved a way for me to come back!
I Love HLCS because… it provides a combination of academic excellence and spiritual relevance for students. What makes it truly wonderful here is the community of people who love their students and love each other as Christ loves.
Activities & hobbies I enjoy: reading, water skiing, traveling, speaking Spanish, and playing at the park with my three kids.
1st & 2nd Grade
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
Significant Life Experiences that have led me to HLCS: I grew up as a pastor’s kid and attended a Christian school myself. A good biblical foundation is so important in life. I was able to stand firm when I attended a public school and went “into the world”. I enjoy laying the same firm foundation in my students. I want them to trust in the Lord no matter what they may face in their life.
I Love HLCS because… we are a family. Parents, children and teachers form a community of believers that pray and encourage each other. My first and second graders pray for the high school kids, teachers, and other parents, just as often as they pray for each other.
Activities & hobbies I enjoy: I enjoy scrapbooking. Each year I make a book for every child of what we did in first and second grade. I love to read and delight in sharing my favorite picture books with my class.
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Significant Life Experiences That Led Me to HLCS: My family and I were led to HLCS after many prayers for direction led to a random response about a job that my husband had submitted a resume for. We began to feel strongly especially within the past year living in Illinois that we needed to move and get a fresh start but didn’t have any idea when or how it would happen. One day my husband received a phone call regarding a teaching position at HLCS. They just so happened to have another teaching position available in the readiness class which was perfect for me as an Elementary Teacher with an Early Childhood Endorsement. We are from the area originally and have family and friends nearby. We had to decide within a week on whether or not to make the move and we then had 2 weeks to pack and wrap up our lives in Illinois to make the move back to Michigan. Clearly God has given us the direction that we had been praying for and we are so thankful that we placed our trust in Him and have been able to join the HLCS family.
I Love HLCS because… it is a supportive family environment both to work in and raise our kids in. Getting to work with people and children who come from a similar faith background and have similar values is so important in becoming a team in which we are all working towards every child reaching success in all aspects of their lives.
Activities & hobbies I enjoy: I enjoy doing art or craft projects, running, taking fitness classes, and playing volleyball.
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: My favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11 which says, “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you a hope and a future.” I believe that my days as a student here prepared in me a love for this school which grows stronger each day. His plan for my future to return here as a teacher was one He cultivated in my heart. I will be forever grateful to the Lord for this school and what it has done for me and my children. My prayer is that each day I teach I might have a chance to help my students as they grow, prosper, and seek the Lord’s will for their futures.
Significant life experiences that led me to HLCS: HLCS has been my home forever. I started at HLCS as a student in sixth grade and continued all the way through graduation. During my time here and through my interactions with my teachers, I developed a love for teaching and children. After studying at Taylor University, I was blessed enough to be able to return to teach at Harbor Light. Now that my children are school age, I am back to full time teaching and could not be happier.
I love HLCS because… This place is not just a school it is a family. I know that my own children are loved and well taken care of as they learn each day and the children God gives me as students become like my own. I love to play tennis and watch my kids play sports for HLCS!
5th & 6th Grade
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: I lift my eyes up to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
Significant Life Experiences that led me to HLCS: I am from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and moved to Petoskey when I was hired to teach 2nd-3rd grade in 1995 at HLCS. I taught 3rd grade until 2001, and then taught one more year of music in 2002 before stepping down to stay home with my children.
I love HLCS because… we are working hard to instill God’s truth and right living in our children at home, and we are so blessed to have them in an environment that adds to and backs up the same things we are teaching at home.
Activities/Hobbies I enjoy: Some of my favorite things to do are read, be outside, go for walks or bike rides, play the piano, and spend time in the U.P. with family.
Special Education & Technology
One of My Favorite Bible Verses: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:12-13
Significant Life Experiences that led me to HLCS: Back in August 2019, I was baptized by Pastor Gary and at this time, he asked me if I wanted a job at HLCS when he learned what I studied. I graduated from Alma College in May 2021 as a double major in Special Education and Elementary Education. The day that I went in to observe and job shadow was the day that I truly gained an understanding of the immense difference between a public school and HLCS. Both faculty and students were extremely kind, more energetic, and clearly were genuinely happy being at school. This difference in attitude and the fact that it is more of a family, rather than just a school is why I am extremely thankful and excited that God has led me to HLCS.
I love HLCS because… rather than being a school teaching academics and caring about the statistics, HLCS focuses on each individual as their own and how we are able to work together to grow and always follow God’s callings. HLCS is a tool used by God to teach kindness, wisdom, respect, compassion, teamwork, and to always love one another.
Activities/Hobbies I enjoy: I love being outside, whether that is traveling, hiking, stone hunting, biking, sunset chasing, snowboarding, skiing, or sledding. I also love spending time at home doing puzzles, reading, or making crafts while spending time with my husband, dog, and cat!
